Abstract

The place and role of Islam in world history, including in modernization processes, are among the
most pressing problems. This is primarily due to the processes of globalization and integration taking
place in the world, as Islamic civilization offers alternative ways of world development. In addition,
the process of spiritual modernization carried out in Kazakhstani society also increases the relevance of
the study of this problem. Islam, as a world religion, has repeatedly experienced deep modernization
processes, and similar processes are currently taking place. At present, in order for us to well understand
the process of modernization in Islam, it is important to study the history of such processes in the past,
to determine their cause-effect relationships. The article discusses the features of the Jadidid movement
in Kazakh society at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, analyzes the activities of major
representatives of this movement. At the same time, an attempt is made to identify the prerequisites for
the stability of religious beliefs in Muslim countries.
The purpose of this article is to analyze the place and role of the Islamic religion in the history of the
Kazakh people, to determine the influence of this religion on modern modernization processes.
