Abstract

This article discusses the study of the medieval settlement Saraishyk of the Khorezm archaeological and ethnographic expedition under the guidance of the corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences Soviet Union, doctor of historical sciences, professor, famous ethnographer, archaeologist, orientalist Sergey Tolstov. Khorezm Archaeological and Ethnographic Expedition (KHAEЕ) is a research institution. From 1937 to 1992, it conducted research in Central Asia. In 1937-1945 it was called the Khorezm Archaeological Expedition. The Khorezm expedition was founded in 1937 by the outstanding Soviet archaeologist and ethnographer Sergei Pavlovich Tolstov. He called Khorezm the "Egypt of Central Asia" and devoted his life to studying the tangible and intangible heritage of Khorezm. The expedition was created at the Institute of Ethnography and Anthropology of the USSR Academy of Sciences (later the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences). Since 1945, it has been widely recognized in the scientific community under the name Khorezm Archaeological and Ethnographic Expedition (KHAEE).
