On some peculiarities of the Bulgarian-Slavic relations
Abstract
In this article, the author, on the basis of historical sources, considers the historical fate of the Bulgar- ian tribes living on the northern steppe expanses of the Black Sea. According to the author, the history of this people, whose origins originate from the ancient Hunnic unions, is very complex. The Khanate of Great Bulgaria, which was formed by the Bulgarians, fell apart under the pressure of the Khazars. In the article the author shows how most of them, led by Asparuh Khan, crossed the Danube, formed a new Khanate, and the fact that in this khanate members were such «Slavic» tribes as savirs, i.e. This new Khanate was in fact a Turkic-Slavic state, and that this subsequently led to the Slavization of the ancient Bulgars, whose ancestors were originally Turkic-speaking. The article also examines the historical fate of most of the Bulgars, who were forced out to the north, into the upper course of the Volga River. The author, using widely the ancient sources and works of researchers, placed special emphasis on the work of Ibn Fadlan. On the basis of the sources, some traditions and customs that were not in accord with the medieval author to Islamic religious beliefs, neighboring tribes of the Bulgars such as the Khazar, Rus, Bashkirs are described on the basis of sources. They are unused earlier for various reasons by research- ers materials, but what is important, which truthfully illuminates unknown moments of the history of the past.
