Abstract

The chest is one type of item of household goods for storing clothes, fabrics, jewelry, food, linen. In everyday life of the Kazakhs, the chest was the main type of furniture and necessary part of housing and at the same time a work of art. It took a visible place among other house furniture and utensils; it is a decoration of tor – the most honorable place in the yurta. The tied boxes on it demonstrate the wealth of the owner and his/her social status. A variation of the chest and decoration suggest the rich folklore and traditional taste of the Kazakhs. Chests have been in high demand among the Kazakh people since the ancient time. It is widely used even today.
