Abstract

The article publishes the first results of research carried out in the medieval settlement of Kyshkala.
Since 2018, a comprehensive study has been conducted in this monument with the aim of studying the
medieval city of Kyshkala and its filling, reconstruction of the main elements of material and spiritual
culture, cultural and economic traditions, socio-economic system. Obtained in the course of research at
the settlement of Kyshkala located in the lower reaches of the Syr Darya were introduced into scientific
circulating topography, excavation materials and new monuments discovered during exploration. As a
result of the research work carried out, an octagonal structure was completely excavated from excavation
No. 2.
The article contains a detailed description of the plan, the peculiarities of the location of the premises,
connection between them and the building structures inside the premises of the octahedral madrasah
excavated in 2018-2020 at the Kyshkala settlement. The main part of the article contains the first general
information and the results of a comparative analysis regarding structures found during excavations,
coins and building materials found in them. The time of madrassah appearance, stages of its development
and a brief history of madrassah study are given in medieval written sources. Kyshkala is localized
with medieval settlement Barshynkent.
