A BREAKTHROUGH IN THE HISTORIOGRAPHY AND SOURCE STUDIES OF KAZAKHSTAN'S GULAGS
Abstract
Until the publication of the collection, only a few research works on the history of Kazakhstan's GULAG camps had been carried out. The child-camp aspect in these studies was extremely limited. The main reason for this was the inaccessibility of archival materials. With the resolution of this problem within the framework of the State Commission for the full rehabilitation of victims of political repressions of the 1920s-1950s, favourable conditions were created for successfully addressing the task of forming the necessary documentary basis for the history of camp childhood.
