THE TOPONYM «YERIMBET» IN THE KARMAKSHY REGION: HISTORICAL AND ETYMOLOGICAL ANALYSIS

The article discusses the formation and history of the place named "Yerimbet," located in the territory of Karmakshy district, Kyzylorda region. In the research work, attention is paid to the data on the historical and geographical names of places. It is known that, along with the colonial policy of the Soviet government, the names of land and water, as well as settlements, were changed, and the history of the appearance of some was completely forgotten. The purpose and objectives. The purpose of the research work is to solve the origin and formation of the place name "Yerimbet" and put an end to the problem. To achieve this goal, it is planned to: Systematize all oral data related to the topic. Examine narrative data. Introduce scientific materials from the Republican and regional archives into academic circulation. Methods and materials. Systematization, differentiation, and analysis of data from the Central State Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan and other sources were used as research methods. Historical-comparative and other methods were also applied. Results. The name "Yerimbet" is due to the name of a citizen of the Shomekei tribe, Yerimbet, who settled there in the late 19th–early 20th centuries on the territory of Kuandariya village, Karmakshy district, Kyzylorda region, about 13 km to the west. This name of the place has nothing to do with the historical figure – Karasakal Yerimbet. The years of his life are 1844–1916. He was born in the territory of the Aral district. In 1928, he built a mosque at his own expense. The name of the historical place "Yerimbet," which was respected among the people, was formed by the local population. Conclusion. Around 1850–1932, the name "Yerimbet" became established as a place name.
