Abstract

The history of Kazakh dwellings has a long history. There are both large works and small articles about the dwellings of the Kazakhs. However, there are no specific studies on the study of the dwellings of the Kazakhs of Mongolia in modern times. The purpose of the article is to consider the features of the settlement system of the Kazakh ethnic group in Mongolia, one of the important elements of their material culture - mobile and stationary types of dwellings based on materials collected during ethnographic expeditions. Thus, the article presents information on the use of traditional dwellings, the introduction of innovations and changes in stationary dwellings. As the main source in this article, the authors use materials collected during several expeditions. The work uses the historical-comparative method, in which the data of long-term research are compared and analyzed with information in the ethnographic literature, and the interweaving of traditions and innovations is studied.

The results of the study indicate that among the Kazakh diaspora in Mongolia, the Kazakhs inhabiting the Bayan-Ulgii aimag have preserved their traditional material culture to this day. Despite living in a different cultural environment far from the main ethnic group, compact residence in this region, as well as semi-nomadic cattle breeding, the similarity of the lifestyle of the Khalkha Mongols, Uriankhais and other Turkic ethnic groups of the country, the absence of pressure from the state, the development of tourism in the country contributes to the preservation of traditional material culture.
