The article is devoted to the study of the history of the foundation of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, one of the largest museums in the world. Previously, the history of the formation of the funds of this institution was considered in close connection with the time of the creation of the museum in 2013. However, the examination of the museum's collection of objects indicates that this work began much earlier. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to study the problems of creating the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of its foundation, as well as to publish new data on the formation of stock collections of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the history of obtaining exhibits for it.
The research source base consists of documents from the National Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the State Archive of the Akmola region, the State Archive of Astana, as well as the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In addition to general scientific methods, special historical methods were used in the study.
As a result of the examination of the exhibits of the museum fund and the collection of materials in several archives of Kazakhstan, the authors have established that the foundation of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan originates from the Akmola County Museum of Local Lore, established in 1923. In addition, based on the manuscripts found in the museum's collections, it was established that the Akmola Regional Museum of Local Lore experienced difficulties in different historical periods, sometimes lost its museum collection, and then replenished them thanks to hard work.
As a result of scientific research, archival data that had not previously been put into scientific circulation was discovered, and it was also established that in addition to the Akmola Regional Museum of Local Lore, the National Museum's collections included exhibits collected by the Tselinograd City Museum of Modern Art (1980-2014), the Museum of Gold and Precious Metals (1990-2014), the Presidential Center for Culture of the Republic Kazakhstan (2000-2012) and others. The authors concluded that the history of the foundation of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan dates back more than a century and has passed through several stages of development.
