Abstract

This work examines the current problems in the study of the kinship system of Kazakhs, which are
not considered comprehensively. The solution of problem requires further painstaking and comprehensive
study. The purpose of research is to identify the most important problems in the typology and
classification of the kinship system, the study of which can be positively influence to the reconstruction
of the structure of traditional Kazakh society. In contrast to the rapidly changing conditions of society,
the kinship system remains stable in the historical development process. Therefore, its study remains
relevant for modern ethnology.
There have been used a method of component analysis, which allows to identify the internal laws
of the kinship system and structure the features of its functioning, identify its distinctive sides, and at the
same time determine the place of the “ego” in the overall picture of kinship. The problem of the typology
of the Kazakh kinship system is investigated and the difficulties in determining its place in the four-part
typology of kinship term systems developed at the beginning of the 20th century by A. Kreber, R. Lowy
and W. Rivers are revealed. As a result of the research, we set tasks that will undoubtedly expand our
knowledge in the anthropology of the kinship of the Kazakh people.
