Nightingale in Stalinist times
Abstract
The article elucidates the problems of relations between representatives of the emerging Kazakh cultural soviet elite and the Stalinist regime through analysis of some aspects of the artistic path in 1930s of the prominent opera diva- Kulaysh Baiseitova. By mid 1930s she consciously participated in the processes of new Kazakh culture creation and formation of a new woman. Her Ego was developed politically as well. Her identity was in the permanent focus of authorities and public, she had to work tirelessly to meet the expectations. How could she on the razor edge and become a model of a new Kazakh woman and personify all her female contemporaries? Key words: Kulyash Baiseitova, opera, Stalinism, new Kazakh woman.
