Archival development in Kazakhstan in the period of independence

Abstract

The article discusses the development of archiving in independent Kazakhstan, adoption in December 1998 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan «On the National Archival Fund and Archives». Great attention was paid to the further development and improvement of the legislative framework, as well as the adoption of a number of decrees of the government of the republic on the development of archives in the Republic of Kazakhstan, resolutions on documentation and documentation management, on the creation of an insurance fund of copies of documents from the National Archival Fund, and on improving the methodological, material and technical base. Considered deepening international cooperation in archives and documentation, Kazakhstan’s accession to the International Council of Archives; participation in the development of intergovernmental regulatory documents on cooperation in the use of archival information. Priorities for the activity of archives are highlighted, the main prospects for the development of Kazakhstan archives are indicated.
