Archeological research of the medieval settlement Sortobe
Abstract
The article represents the results of a comprehensive archaeological study Sortbe squad of Jarkent archaeological expedition to the medieval settlement Sortobe in 2017. According to the results of archaeological research of the hillfort Sortobe can be described as one of the Oghuz towns-fortresses existed in the VIII-IX centuries on the lower reaches of the Syrdarya. Head of the Khorezm archaeological and ethnographic expedition, academician S.P. Tolstov identified them as separate archaeological culture “marsh settlement”. However, in light of recent archaeological surveys on the “marsh settlement”, the hypothesis that the “marsh settlement” was founded by representatives djetyasar culture. Analysis of the identified building structures in the course of archaeological excavations, the analogy which we find in the early medieval settlements of Khorezm oasis, gives the opportunity to reconstruct the medieval intrapartum, community relations of the tribes inhabiting the lower reaches of the Syrdarya.
