Abstract

In this article, based on field materials and a wide range of literary sources, the jewelry of the Karakalpak people studied as a focus of transformations of family rituals. The development and preservation of any national culture at the present stage is associated with finding adequate mechanisms for its transmission, with the effectiveness of living traditions and customs. The solution of these problems is associated with an increased interest in the history of national traditional culture. The article deals with the transformation of the ancient customs of the Karakalpak people, the role of jewelry in new traditions that came to us from the cultures of neighboring, as well as Western peoples. Jewelry as a material sign determines the structure of an individual's behavior in everyday life and is one of the mechanisms for maintaining traditions in the system of national culture, at the same time being a sign of ethnic identity. Today, elements of tradition are very common, adapted to the realities of the modern world, and used to celebrate important dates in a person's life. The author has studied the conditions, reasons and value of the inclusion of jewelry in the daily traditions of the people and the traditions inherent in the Islamic religion. The article mainly talks about the traditions associated with the life and upbringing of a child, especially with the ceremony of celebrations and preparation for them. It is becoming fashionable to give gifts, in particular, jewelry as gratitude or as an omen at certain stages of folk rituals, and this makes it possible to be aware of the financial and social situation of the family. In turn, they testify not only to the high value of jewelry, but also to the intrusion into the social culture of the people of new trends. Thus, the author highlights the analysis of jewelry as objects of traditional culture is associated with the processes of ethno genesis, ethno cultural interactions, traditional way of life, and religious beliefs.
